Ken McCarren is the President of MBK Rental Living. In his role, he is responsible for the acquisition, development, operations, and disposition of all MBK communities. Mr. McCarren has over 30 years of experience in multifamily real estate with assets throughout the western United States. Before joining MBK Rental Living in 2020 he was responsible for a multifamily portfolio located in six western States owned by Merage Investment Group. Previously in his career, he spent 15 years as SVP of Asset Management responsible for the entire Irvine Company Apartment portfolio of over 44,000 apartment homes. Mr. McCarren spent four years as the SVP Asset Management at BRE, a large public REIT owning and operating over 22,000 units located throughout six Western States where he was responsible for the entire portfolio.

Before the real estate industry, Mr. McCarren served four years as a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Mr. McCarren earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from California State University at Long Beach, he is a Certified Public Accountant and holds the designation of Certified Property Manager from the Institute of Real Estate Management.

David Kurian is Senior Vice President of Construction Management at MBK Rental Living. In his role, Mr. Kurian is responsible for managing all construction operations for our developments. Mr. Kurian brings more than 30 years of senior-level experience to the MBK team, half of which was with TriCal Construction and the remaining experience as a Senior Vice President with both KB Home and Richmond American Homes. Over the span of his career, Mr. Kurian has overseen the construction of more than 10,000 single-family homes and approximately 4,000 multifamily units, including podium, garden-style, and mixed-use product types.
Ed Davis serves as Senior Vice President of Acquisitions for MBK Rental Living, where he spearheads the firm’s investment strategy and growth initiatives. In this role, he oversees the full lifecycle of acquisition activity—including sourcing opportunities, structuring transactions, and facilitating investment strategies for new developments and equity partnerships. Mr. Davis also leads portfolio disposition efforts, leveraging timing, relationships, and deep market insight to maximize returns. With more than 25 years of broad-based experience spanning real estate acquisition, entitlement, finance, construction, and project management, Mr. Davis brings a comprehensive skill set and a proven track record of advancing complex projects from concept to completion. His career is distinguished by consistent growth leadership, disciplined investment judgment, and the ability to deliver exceptional results across all stages of the real estate investment cycle.
Ron Mertzel is the Vice President of Planning and Development for MBK Rental Living, where he oversees all planning and entitlement operations for the company, which include budgeting and scheduling. In addition, Mr. Mertzel assists with feasibilities during acquisitions and horizontal development. Prior to joining the MBK team in 2022, Mr. Mertzel served as Vice President of Forward Planning and Vice President of Development for KB HOME overseeing the planning, entitlement, and development of a multitude of single-family attached and detached communities in Los Angeles, Ventura, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties. Mr. Mertzel spent 23 years at KB HOME. Prior to KB, Mr. Mertzel worked at Larwin Company supervising single-family detached communities and spent 4 years in property management overseeing apartment communities.
Eric Grossman joins MBK Rental Living as Vice President of Asset Management. Mr. Grossman has over 20 years of experience in Asset Management. Most recently, he served as Senior Director, Real Estate Equity Asset Management at Barings, responsible for the operations and strategic direction of multifamily, industrial and self storage assets across the Western region of the United States. Prior to re-joining the firm in 2024, he worked for Equity Residential, where he oversaw the investment management activities for Southern California. Mr. Grossman holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from California State University, Northridge and an MBA from the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business.

Ryan McCarthy serves as Vice President of Acquisitions for MBK Rental Living, where he is responsible for sourcing, underwriting, and executing new development and investment opportunities for the firm. Ryan is a seasoned real estate investment professional with more than 16 years of industry experience and has completed more than $5 billion in transactions throughout his career. He has a proven track record of cultivating strategic partnerships and structuring complex transactions across multiple asset classes.

Prior to joining MBK, Ryan served as a Senior Vice President at Stockbridge, where he focused on multifamily and industrial investments. Earlier in his career, he held roles at The Carlyle Group in New York and CBRE in Northern California. Ryan holds a Bachelor of Science from Stanford University.
